A tax such as VAT discourages the productive process because it makes goods more expensive. Such a tax will not help our economy to recover from its present crisis. What we need is a tax which does encourage such a recovery and there is only one kind of tax that can do this, a tax on the lost opportunities offered by our natural resources, namely a tax on land values.
